Generate/SAVEAS2.gif Save As

ASCII Format

The Save As option saves the data table to file. The default format is a 15 digit precision ASCII file with a PRN extension. In a saved ASCII file, the titles are always in double quotes and each X-Y data pair is always on a new line. The flag character '*' will follow the Y value if the X-Y pair has been excluded. If weighting is used, the weights will then follow preceded by an uppercase W. Spaces are used to separate the data elements. These ASCII data files can be modified with any ASCII editor, including the ASCII Editor available from within the program.

Excel 95 and Excel 97 Formats

You may optionally save the data table as an Excel 95 or Excel 97 spreadsheet file. These files will offer 15-16 digit binary floating point precision. The first row of the spreadsheet will contain the main title and the second row will contain the X and Y data titles. The X values will be in the first column, the Y values in the second, and if weighting is used, the weights will appear in the third column. The flags for active and inactive points are not preserved when saving an Excel file. Only Excel 97 supports the 65536 data table limit in AutoSignal.

WK1,WK3 Formats

You may optionally save the data table as a Lotus WK1 or Lotus WK3 spreadsheet file. These files will offer 15-16 digit binary floating point precision. The first row of the spreadsheet will contain the main title and the second row will contain the X and Y data titles. The X values will be in the first column, the Y values in the second, and if weighting is used, the weights will appear in the third column. The flags for active and inactive points are not preserved when saving a WK1 or WK3 file. Note that Lotus 123 version 5 has a maximum row limit of 8192.

SPSS SAV Format

You may also elect to save the data table as a compressed SPSS SAV file. The SAV will have 15-16 digit binary floating point precision. The X variable will use the name XVAR and its label will be the current X title. Similarly, the Y variable will use the name YVAR and its label will consist of the current Y title. A column named ACTIVE will contain 1 if a point is enabled, and 0 if disabled. A WEIGHT column will contain the weights, or values of 1.0 if weighting is not present. An SPSS file saved from AutoSignal will be automatically read upon import (no column selection) if these four variables comprise the file. In addition to offering direct export to SPSS, the SAV format is the most efficient of the available formats for disk storage.

SYSTAT SYS Format

For export to SYSTAT, the data table can be saved as a SYS file. The file will have 15-16 digit binary floating point precision. The X variable will use up to 12 characters of the current X title. Similarly, the Y variable will use up to 12 characters of the current Y title. A WEIGHT column will contain the weights, if weighting is present. Since a SYS file does not preserve full title information, it is recommended only for export to SYSTAT.
