Main Window Status Graph
Status Graph
The main window displays a status graph that plots the current data set. This graph's only function is to graphically confirm the current data set.
To view the data more extensively, or for a very fast list procedure, the View
option in the Data menu should be used.
Machine Statistics
The status graph also includes a listing of machine and data table statistics. This includes the data and time, the amount of free RAM available directly to AutoSignal, and a floating point index (FPI) that measures the floating point performance of the machine.
The free RAM is particularly important for memory intensive algorithms, such as the wavelet procedures, and for Excel automation where significant performance advantages occur if the whole of the Excel file can be read into RAM. Note that Windows can consume a large portion of RAM on 32 or 48 Mb machines, leaving very little for AutoSignal's more demanding procedures.
The FPI is a floating point benchmark indexed at a value of 100 for the original IBM AT with coprocessor. FPI values should be in the vicinity of 10,000-100,000 for a good Pentium class machine.
Data Table Statistics
The status graph lists the data record length, including inactivated points, and the file source from which the data table was drawn. For both the X and Y variables, the current title is displayed along with the minimum, maximum, median, mean, and standard deviation. From Xmin to Xmax, an area is computed as well as a time-integral squared amplitude (TISA) power.
